MDF Wood Vs Solid Wood

The difference between MDF wood and Solid wood and which to choose for your Furniture?

Nowadays furniture are built with engineered wood such as MDF boards. Over the years, engineered wood has become a preferred choice for interior decorators and home furniture. This is because natural solid wood is extremely costly compare to engineered wood. Engineered wood is a lot more affordable for customization and environmentally more sustainable than solid wood.

Unlike solid wood which is a single thick piece of plain solid wood, engineered wood is manufactured by packing and binding together wood derivatives into compact durable planks. Engineered wood MDF boards (Medium Density Fiberboard) are made of wood fibers bonded by synthetic resin and compressed through pressure and heat, resulting in a solid and very uniform board with good finish and durability.

Solid wood is impressively strong and sturdy. If you are looking to buy something that will last for decades, solid wood furniture is perfect. Solid wood is considered the most expensive material among all these other engineered wood materials available in the market.

However MDF wood has become a popular choice for furniture because it is strong and stable, yet relatively lightweight. MDF is commonly used in making furniture like cabinets and shelves, study tables, chairs, doors, wardrobes and more.
