How to create a Relaxing Corner at Home

A relaxing corner is a wonderful feature for any home. Think about an area of your own where you can rest while listening to music, doing yoga, pursuing a hobby or reading your favourite book.

How would you like to use this relaxation corner? What do you like doing in your free time? What are the activities that help you unwind? Based on this, you will already have an idea of what you will need to create your own relaxation area at home.

It would be perfect if your relaxing corner could let you also enjoy the beautiful views. It is good to choose the corner of the house with the best view, perhaps with a window overlooking the garden or the panorama or with a wall of relaxing colours and images.

Make sure it is away from all the noise and distraction. So don’t put it in front of the TV or in the living room where there’s always someone talking or simply distracting you.

Make your relaxing spot as cozy and comfortable as possible. When selecting furniture for your cozy corner, comfort should be your top priority. Look for soft and inviting furniture like an overstuffed armchair, a comfy recliner, a lazy sofa or daybed. A beanbag can also perform this function remarkably well.

To increase comfort, add cushions. They are great if you want to adopt different positions or if you simply want to feel comfier.

Add a small side table so that it does not disturb the harmony of the other objects. This is a place to set books, cups of tea or coffee, freshly cut flowers, your mobile devices, or even the newspaper.

To complete your relaxation area at home, focus on small and multipurpose furniture, a bookcase that also acts as a room divider; a cabinet with drawers in which to store books and candles and, at the same time, place a cup of tea; a storage to store blankets and pillows when you are not around.

Of course, don’t forget to personalize the space. You can hang pictures, artwork, add favourite plants or fresh flowers. Anything that makes you happy and comfortable.

One thing everyone agrees is that green helps to relax, from the small succulent plant to a series of ground and hanging pots to fill the garden with greenery.

An earthy coloured rug with touches of blush, beige or off-whites can complement the relaxation corner quite nicely. If you practice yoga or meditation you will definitely need a suitable mat.

Just like the colour, the lighting of your corner is incredibly important. You can incorporate indirect lighting. This will relax your sight while providing proper illumination. Always go for a warm tone. A soft orange light is great for this purpose.

The soft glow of candles adds a sense of ease to any space. Incense, candles, essential oils, music, and certain textures can be used to complement the above.
